The selection of Stainless Steel 410 Forged Hydraulic Fittings is generally based upon its excellent machinability coupled with its lower corrosion resistance capabilities.
It is most important that oxygen is always allowed to circulate freely on the surfaces of Stainless Steel 410 Hydraulic Forged Fittings to ensure that a chrome oxide film is always present to protect it. If this is not the case, rusting will occur in SS 410 Hydraulic Fittings as with other types of non stainless steels. Prior to nitriding, the chrome oxide film which protects the surface of SS 410 Hydraulic Type Fittings must be broken down by pickling or fine sand blasting.
SS 410 Forged Hydraulic Fittings is especially valuable for applications requiring high-temperature scaling resistance superior to SS 409, SS 430 and SS 304 and for those applications where SS 442 and SS 446 give only marginal protection. Typical uses of SS 410 Hydraulic Forged Fittings include tubular manifolds and other exhaust system components where temperatures may exceed the oxidation limit, or where wet corrosion resistance, particularly to chlorides, is needed.
